Steve Shelton, CPA

Steve is president of Way, Ray, Shelton & Co., P.C., where he specializes in accounting and auditing. He has concentrated in accounting in the newspaper industry for 20 years. Steve is a frequent speaker at newspaper industry programs and consults with newspaper owners and CFO’s on a variety of subjects. He has experience with mergers, acquisitions, equity and debt financing and accounting for the day to day activities of the newspaper industry.

Steve is a member of the board of directors and past President of INPACT Americas, an organization of accounting firms with 35 member firms from the United States and affiliate firms in more than 30 countries worldwide. The organization serves to keep its member firms on the cutting edge of the accounting profession and assists in identifying and promoting accounting management strategies.

Steve is a Cum Laude graduate of The University of Alabama where he received a Bachelors degree, in 1974 and a Masters degree, in 1975, both in accounting. While in school, Steve became a member of Beta Alpha Psi, and Beta Gamma Sigma, the national accounting and business honor societies. He received his CPA certificate in 1977.

Steve is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Alabama Society of CPAs, Inland Press Association and Southern Newspaper Publishers Association. He is a past Chairman of the "Management of an Accounting Practice" committee of the Alabama Society of CPAs. He is also a past secretary/treasurer, vice president and president of the Tuscaloosa Chapter of the Alabama Society of CPAs.

He and his wife, Sue, have three daughters, Heather, Stephanie and Catherine.

Robert S. Way, CPA

Bob, a native of Tuscaloosa, attended Purdue University and is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Accounting.

Bob worked for Arthur Young & Co. in Atlanta for two years before joining the firm in late 1971.

He received his CPA certificate from Georgia in 1971 and from Alabama in 1972.

Bob is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants and is a past president of the Tuscaloosa Chapter of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants.

He is also a member and past president of, the Tuscaloosa Estate Planning Council, and is past President of the Black Warrior Council of the Boy Scouts of America and is a member of the Exchange Club.

Away from the office he enjoys flying, hunting and water sports with his family. He and his wife, Shirley, have two sons, David and Michael. Bob and his family are members of St. Mark United Methodist Church.

Paul Ray, CPA

Paul, a native of Ackerman, Mississippi, attended Mississippi State University and is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Accounting.  He received his CPA certificate in 1973. 

Paul is active in the American Institute and the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants.  He is past chairman of the Personal Financial Planning Committee of the Alabama Society of CPAs.  He is also past president of Tuscaloosa Chapter of the Alabama Society of CPAs. 

He is a member of the board of directors and treasurer of the Shelton State Community College Foundation; he sits on the board of trustees of the DCH Healthcare Authority and serves on the executive committee and chairman of the audit committee.  He is also a member of the board of directors of United Cerebal Palsy. 

He and his wife, Marlec, have two sons, Jeff and Joey.

Kim Elmore, CPA

Kim, a native of Eutaw, Alabama, is vice president of Way, Ray, Shelton & Co., P.C., where she works primarily in accounting and auditing.  She has concentrated her work in the industry areas of  newspaper and construction entities.  

Kim is a 1982 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Accounting.  While in school, Kim was initiated as a member of the Beta Alpha Psi and Beta Gamma Sigma, the national accounting and business honor societies.  She received her CPA certificate in 1985.    She is a 1991 graduate of Leadership Tuscaloosa.

Kim is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants.  She served as president, vice president and  secretary/treasurer, of the Tuscaloosa Chapter of the Alabama Society of CPAs.    She has also worked in various volunteer capacities with United Cerebral Palsy of West Alabama and the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama including chairperson of the Finance Committee for the United Cerebral Palsy and co-chairperson of the Ambassador program for the Chamber.  She also served for two years as the treasurer of the Collins Riverside Junior High School’s PTSA.  She is a former member of the Tuscaloosa Rotary Club.

Cindy Savage, CPA

Cindy, a native of Hueytown, has concentrated in employee benefit plan administration and auditing for eight years. She has experience with the design and setup of retirement plans, the day to day reporting and IRS/DOL filings, and ERISA requirements.

Cindy is a 1984 Honors graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Business Administration majoring in Accounting. While at Auburn, she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi (Auburn University Honorary), Beta Gamma Sigma (Business School Honorary) and Beta Alpha Psi (Accounting Honorary).

Cindy joined Way, Ray, Shelton & Co., P.C. in 1985 and received her CPA certificate in May 1987. She is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant and The Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Cindy is married to Bryan and has three children, Kristen, Dustin and Cody. Cindy is a member of First Wesleyan Church.

Bert Sims, CPA

Bert, a native of Northport, AL  specializes in various tax matters involving corporations, partnerships and estates & trusts.  While working with corporations, he is involved in acquisition, compliance and tax planning.

Bert graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Accounting in 1989.  While at Alabama, he was a member of accounting honorary Beta Alpha Psi.

After working on the audit staff of Ernst & Young for two years, Bert went to Texas A&M University where he earned a Masters degree in taxation in 1992.  He received his CPA certificate in 1991.

Bert is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants.  He is a member of Cottondale Church of Christ and serves as the Treasurer of the Eutaw Church of Christ.  He is a standing member of the West Alabama United Way fund distribution committee and also the chairman of the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce federal taxation sub-committee.  He is a current board member and past president of the Tuscaloosa Tip Off club.

He and his wife Melody have two daughters, Bess and Lilly.
